Villa keeper Mark Bosnich has failed
his fitness bid to play in the second round first leg UEFA cup game against
Spanish team Celta Viga.
The Villa team flew out from Birmingham airport without the number one keeper, who also missed the league game against West Ham on Saturday. Michael Oakes stays in the squad to deputise, looking to stake a claim to the number one place after a solid performance Saturday in only his first game of the season. John Gregory gave lots of praise to Michael Oakes after his performance Saturday, with Oakes trying to make it as hard as he can for the manager to decide which keeper is the number 1. With Bosnich also set to leave in the summer, 24 year old Oakes, 3 years younger than Bosnich, is aiming to prove to Gregory that he doesn't need to look to replace him with another keeper. |
