The ex Coventry star was locked in arguments with his former club over a clause in his contract allowing him to speak to any clubs who offered over £5 million.
Blackburn Rovers had offered £6.75 million and when he turned them down for Villa,  Coventry City wanted the same amount of money that Blackburn had offered.  Gregory refused to up his bid,  and after a letter from Dublin's solicitors to the Coventry City board he was finally given permission to speak to Villa.

Gregory hopes Dublin can help Villa where they have been lacking most this season,  up front scoring goals.  He is also comfortable at the back,  playing as centre back for Coventry last season in quite a few games.
