Celtic head coach Jozef Venglos last
night outlined his determination to keep defender Alan Stubbs at Parkhead,
but admitted he may be powerless to have his wish. The talented centre-half
is subject of interest, though not yet a formal bid, from Aston Villa
and has hinted he wants a return south for the sake of his international
ambitions. He was absent with an ankle problem at Fir Park as Celtic coped
well without him via Henrik Larsson reigniting the club's title challenge
with four goals in a stunning 7-1 win. Venglos said: ``All that I know
is that the bid from Aston Villa has not come, but I would like Alan Stubbs
to stay in the Celtic team. ``I know that he is a good quality player,
but the rest I cannot analyse now and have to accept that what happens
next may not be in my hands.''
